So You Wanna Become Suddenly Skinny with Gastric Bypass?

In Friday (7 December 2007) show, they talk about becoming suddenly skinng with gastric bypass. According to webmd.com , gastric bypass surgery
"makes the stomach smaller and allows food to bypass part of the small intestine. You will feel full more quickly than when your stomach was its original size, which reduces the amount of food you eat and thus the calories consumed. Bypassing part of the intestine also results in fewer calories being absorbed. This leads to weight loss."

Life after Gastric Bypass
Think about it, if you become suddenly skinny, you will be very happy right? Apparently, it's not. According to those who went throught the bypass and Wikipedia, many who undergone gastric bypass surgery suffer from depression after the surgery. As patients need to follow strict diet in following months, it can cause negative impact to the energy level and emotional state. In addition, many patients become alcoholics.

Lori is one of the guest in Oprah's Suddenly Skinny show. She weighed 267 pounds and lost 125 pounds after gastric bypass surgery. As she has to follow a strict diet, she started to seek comfort via drinking between 10 to 12 drinks a day. Still, Lori refused to believe that she is an alcoholic.

Other victims that speak include singer Carnie Wilson (from Wilson Philips) & Linda. They decided to speak up to alert general public that surgery is not the anwer to weight loss. Dr Robin, an expert in Suddenly Skinny, gives following tips to those who suffer from addiction like alcoholism:
"You need support in your life and you need to be with other people who are going through what you're going through. Don't alienate yourself. The worst thing we can do is be alone in our sorrow."
